Squares are fundamental elements of urban design in the architecture of a city, as they contribute to the improvement of the territory and the well-being of the population. Representative buildings are usually erected around them. They are the site of various activities that enrich the community in which they are inserted.
Today I want to introduce you to the Student Square, located northwest of Maracay. This space acquired its name thanks to the numerous students from nearby universities, colleges and high schools who used to gather there to study, taking advantage of the blackboards available in the place.
Design and Restoration
Recently restored, the Student Square has been adapted for the enjoyment of many, offering several areas for recreation. Unlike other squares, it does not have a statue, but offers different attractions. Its extension is approximately 11,400 square meters.
The essence of the place is maintained with a space dedicated to teaching, as it has several open-air classrooms, composed of walls with blackboards and cement benches to facilitate student meetings. In addition, the square has a digital library equipped with several computers and free Wi-Fi zone throughout.
Sports Spaces
One of the highlights of the square are the sports facilities. It has a soccer field with artificial turf, adorned with images of the city's soccer glories on the protective fence. It also has an area for basketball practice, with a circular court specially designed for street games.
The plaza includes concrete ping pong tables, ideal for their resistance to inclement weather, ensuring their durability. Another important addition is the calisthenics area, a booming practice in the city. This area is equipped with various structural tubing apparatuses, designed to be functional also for people with disabilities.
Cultural and Recreational Spaces
The plaza does not forget the little ones, offering parks and playgrounds. It also has an open-air amphitheater with a capacity for 200 people. The bleachers and the stage are made of concrete, and the latter is covered by a structure of tubes and plastic material. Two floodlights, powered by solar panels, illuminate the space, showing an intelligent and sustainable approach to its design.
Innovation and Technology
In the center of the plaza is a fountain made of concrete with four levels, decorated with eye-catching paint that enhances the augmented reality experience. This innovation allows the viewer to feel the water flowing out of the fountain, creating a unique experience.
Green Areas and Sustainability
Maracay, known as the Garden City, sees its identity reflected in the well-distributed green areas of the plaza. It also has a multipurpose space made of structural tubes, covered with plants that take advantage of the sun and provide shade to visitors. In addition, pet drinking fountains have been installed, demonstrating that the design of the place considers all users.
Bike Path
The plaza also has a bike path that runs along the entire site, ideal for lovers of two-wheeled sports. This space stands as a place of recreation for all Maracayeros and is an example that should be replicated in more areas of the city. The materials used in the various spaces ensure durability, guaranteeing visitors that they will be able to enjoy the plaza for a long time.
