I'm continuing with my cycle of Ghibli films, friends, this time it was the turn of "From Up on Poppy Hill" or, as it is known in English, one of those films that are made to touch the soul.
Sigo con siclo de películas de Ghibli, amigos, en esta ocasión tocó el turno de "La Colina de las amapolas" o From Up on Poppy Hill, como se le conoce en inglés, en definitiva, uno de esos films que están hechos para llegar al alma.
Overview/Resumen
It all begins in 1963 when Japan was beginning its development after the war, at the beginning we see a girl (Umi Matsuzaki) who diligently takes care of her home in the absence of her mother who is studying in the USA, but at the same time she also fulfills her schoolwork. Precisely at school she meets Shun Kazama, a boy who seems somewhat carefree because he is always trying to get people's attention by doing reckless stunts, however both he and his friend are actually very applied in school and in fact are part of the Quartier Latin, a dilapidated and old building in which several school clubs operate. But from one moment to the next Umi and Shun discover that apparently they are both very close to each other, more than they imagine.
Todo inicia en 1963 cuando Japón estaba iniciando su desarrollo luego de la guerra, al inicio vemos a una chica (Umi Matsuzaki) la cual cuida diligentemente de su hogar en ausencia de su madre que está estudiando en USA, pero al mismo tiempo también cumple con sus deberes escolares. Precisamente en el colegio conoce a Shun Kazama, un chico que parece algo despreocupado pues siempre está tratando de llamar la atención de la gente haciendo acrobacias temeraria, no obstante tanto él como su amigo son en realidad muy aplicados en la escuela y de hecho forman parte del Quartier Latin, un edificio destartalado y antiguo en el que funcionan varios clubes escolares. Pero de un momento a otro Umi y Shun descubren que al parecer ambos están muy ligados el uno al otro, más de lo que imaginan.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Like all of the studio's films, this one is incredibly beautiful, not only in terms of graphics but also in its soundtrack and story. Aesthetically, it's very detailed, its animation is gorgeous and full of nuances. I like seeing how Shun becomes not only a great friend to Umi, but also helps her leave the past behind and face the present. He's, let's say, a great pillar for her to lean on. Furthermore, both are presented to us as simple characters, meaning they don't have superpowers or great abilities; they're simply two normal people with problems or challenges that anyone could identify with.
A igual que todas las películas del estudio esta guarda una gran belleza no solo a nivel gráfico, sino en el soundtrack y en la historia. A nivele estético es muy detallista, su animación es preciosa y llena de muchos matices. Me gusta ver como Shun se vuelve no solo un gran amigo para Umi, sino que la ayuda a dejar atrás el pasado y afrontar el presente, es, digámoslo así, un gran pilar en el cual ella puede apoyarse, además ambos se presentan a nosotros como personajes simples, es decir, no tienen super poderes o grandes habilidades, son simplemente dos personas normales con problemas o retos con los que cualquier persona podría identificarse.
I feel that the simplicity of the plot makes it even deeper, for example we have Umi, as I already told you, she is a girl who has had to assume the role of "mother" in a certain way, taking care of the house and her family, without neglecting her schoolwork, all this while suffering from the absence of her father. Shun, on the other hand, although at first he seems like an immature boy, we really see that he is a very mature boy for his age, he assumes responsibilities and goes after what he wants. In fact, it is in this search when he discovers something that seems to be a plot twist, something that could change the direction that both characters seemed to be taking, but in the end it turned out that he was wrong. Of course, I will not tell you because it could ruin the experience.
Siento que la simplicidad de la trama hace que sea aún más profunda, por ejemplo tenemos a Umi, como ya les dije, es una chica que ha tenido que asumir un rol de "madre" de cierta manera, cuidando de la casa y de su familia, sin dejar de lado sus labores escolares, todo esto mientras sufre por la ausencia de su padre. Shun por su parte, si bien al inicio nos parece un chico inmaduro, realmente vemos que es un chico muy maduro para su edad, asume responsabilidades y va tras lo que desea, de hecho, es en esta búsqueda cuando descubre algo que parece ser un giro de trama, algo que podría cambiar el rumbo que parecían tomar ambos personajes, pero al final de cuentas resultó que estaba equivocado. Desde luego no se los contaré porque podría arruinarles la experiencia.
But this is also a story of overcoming difficulties that shows that there is strength in unity, that we shouldn't underestimate our own abilities and the effort we put into achieving what we want. For example, I loved the scenes where all the boys and girls dedicated themselves to cleaning and restoring the Latin Quarter, reaping a great reward at the end.
Pero esta además es una historia de superación que demuestra que en la unión está la fuerza, que no debemos subestimar nuestras propias habilidades y el esfuerzo que hacemos para obtener lo que deseamos. Por ejemplo, adoré las escenas donde todos los chicos y chicas se dedicaron a limpiar y restaurar el Quartier Latin, obteniendo al final de todo una gran recompensa.
