Hello, hivers. Welcome to my blog. A warm greeting to everyone.
I enjoy appreciating art in all its forms and dimensions. I enjoy the result of the creative process. Seeing, hearing, and feeling what artists try to express and convey. For this reason, whenever I can, I seek out those places where art speaks to us.
In the municipality of Bauta, in the province of Artemisa, there is a place that visual artists from all over the country pass through. You will always find an exhibition to enjoy there. I am talking about the Guerrero Gallery, named after a distinguished caricaturist from Bauta. Last Saturday, right before the Bumerán art gathering began, I (and others too) had the opportunity to appreciate the "TRANSICIONES" Expo by the visual artist Adrián Infante, who is celebrating his 35 years of artistic life with a body of work recognized nationally and internationally.
I confess that when I crossed the threshold and entered the Gallery, I was surprised; I didn't expect to see what I saw. It wasn't just a space, but a sanctuary where time stopped for me; I only heard the echoes of creation. I walked slowly, feeling the texture of the oils on my skin, while my gaze lost itself in a panoramic view. Those paintings dazzled my eyes and my senses. It was a blow of beauty right in the face. And I wasn't the only one who felt that; everyone in the place did nothing but admire and praise the works. Every painting in this exhibition is a masterpiece, with a perfect combination of brushstrokes and colors.
My steps stopped in front of a large-scale oil painting, the first and largest in the exhibition. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name now, but what I do remember is that it didn't represent an idyllic landscape or a portrait, but rather an explosion of abstract emotions. Strokes of deep blue, yellow, green, and gray intertwined with touches of a vibrant red, like a scream drowned in the ocean.
I immersed myself in it, letting the shapes and colors speak to me. I don't know how long I spent looking at that marvel, but I know it felt like an eternity. And in that eternity, I understood that I was not before a simple ornamental object or a decoration, but before a piece of the artist's soul.
I continued the tour, but that painting stayed with me. Each new work was an intimate conversation with a stranger, because I have not had the pleasure of meeting this eminent painter in person. The gallery revealed itself as a meeting place, where the paintings and the visitors merged into a single being. It was a moment of beautiful discovery where Adrián showed us that art is another way of seeing the vulnerability that unites us as human beings. Visiting this kind of place is comforting and helps us understand that life is more than just eating, working, and sleeping, that nourishing our spirituality is as important as nourishing our stomach.
Finally, I share some information about this exceptional artist, a glory of Cuba. Adrián Infante is a painter, draftsman, and illustrator born in Las Tunas, a graduate of the San Alejandro National Institute of Fine Arts in Havana. His work is in private collections in several countries, and he has participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions internationally. Private collections in the USA, Mexico, Canada, and Germany feature his works. I learned that since his graduation, he has worked as an independent painter and illustrator.
In addition to his creative work, and to our delight, Adrián Infante has a teaching side, as he has worked as a Professor-Instructor of Fine Arts to train young talents and as a specialist at the Provincial Center for Community Culture. My Cuba is a hotbed of artists and creators. What a pride.
