Hace unos meses compartí con ustedes un post sobre una parte de la 5ta Avenida de La Habana. Pues en esta ocasión vengo a mostrarles otra, correspondiente al tramo entre las calles 20 y 30, en el reparto Miramar. No es un secreto que amo caminar, disfrutar de la belleza y admirar el paisaje, por eso hoy quiero mostrarles algo más sobre la Quinta Avenida. Pero esta no es la parte de los hoteles y el ruido, no. Aquí hay selincio y tranquilidad. De hecho, muy pocas personas circulan por estos lares.

A few months ago, I shared a post with you about one part of Havana's 5th Avenue. Well, this time I'm here to show you another section—the stretch between 20th and 30th Streets, in the Miramar neighborhood. It's no secret that I love walking, enjoying beauty, and admiring the scenery, so today I want to show you a bit more about Quinta Avenida. But this isn't the part with hotels and noise—no. Here, there's peace and quiet. In fact, very few people pass through these parts.
Uno camina por esta zona y es como si el tiempo se pusiera más lento. Dejas atrás el bullicio y te metes en un túnel de árboles enormes que se abrazan por encima de la calle, formando un techo de sombra. Y entonces comienza el desfile de mansiones, cada una con su historia, con su estilo, con su encanto particular. Pero lo que más llama la atención, lo que realmente le da el carácter a este paseo, son las embajadas. Son como joyas repartidas en un collar.
Walking through this area, it's as if time slows down. You leave the hustle and bustle behind and step into a tunnel of enormous trees that embrace each other above the street, forming a ceiling of shade. And then the parade of mansions begins, each with its own story, its own style, its own particular charm. But what really catches your attention, what truly gives this stroll its character, are the embassies. They're like jewels scattered along a necklace.
Así podemos encuentrar el Consulado General de Venezuela. Tambien, más adelante están las Embajadas de Sudáfrica, Trinidad y Tobago, República Dominicana, Egipto e Italia. Ves la bandera y te das cuenta de que ese pedazo de tierra es territorio de otro país. Es una sensación curiosa, pero bonita. Te imaginas los diálogos y las historias que han pasado entre esas paredes.
Here we can find the Consulate General of Venezuela. Also, further along, there are the Embassies of South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, and Italy. You see the flag and realize that this piece of land is territory of another country. It's a curious feeling, but a nice one. You imagine the dialogues and the stories that have passed between those walls.
Caminando por la acera, te encuentras con edificios que parecen sacados de una película de época. Y así, una tras otra. Cada mansión es un país, cada bandera es una historia. Algunas tienen unos jardines tan cuidados que parecen de cuento, con flores de todos los colores y esas rejas de hierro forjado que son una obra de arte. Otras son más sobrias, con sus paredes blancas o amarillas, pero todas te hablan de una época dorada, cuando esta avenida era el paseo favorito de la alta sociedad.
Walking along the sidewalk, you come across buildings that look like they're straight out of a period film. And so, one after another. Each mansion is a country, each flag is a story. Some have gardens so well-kept they seem like something from a fairy tale, with flowers of every color and those wrought-iron gates that are works of art. Others are more sober, with white or yellow walls, but all of them speak of a golden era, when this avenue was the favorite promenade of high society.
Mientras ando, veo como los carros pasan veloces, mientras yo lo hago despacio, viendo cada detalle. No hay prisa, no hay estrés. Solo el susurro de las hojas, el canto de algún pájaro que se esconde entre las ramas y la sensación de que estoy en un lugar especial. En el medio de la avenida hay un inmenso separador lleno de árboles (incluida nuestra palma real, la reina del paisaje), bancos y un largo pasillo. De vez en cuando se ve a alguien corriendo y haciendo ejercicios físicos. Aquí también hay un gran parque (parque Miramar), del cuál les hablaré en otro momento con detalle.
As I walk, I see cars passing by quickly, while I move slowly, taking in every detail. There's no rush, no stress. Just the whisper of leaves, the song of some bird hidden among the branches, and the feeling that I'm in a special place. In the middle of the avenue, there's a huge median strip full of trees (including our royal palm, the queen of the landscape), benches, and a long walkway. Every now and then, you see someone running or doing physical exercise. There's also a large park here (Miramar Park), which I'll tell you about in detail another time.
Cuando llego a la calle 30, el paisaje cambia un poquito, pero la sensación de haber visto algo único se queda pegada en la memoria. Porque un paseo por la 5ta avenida, no es solo caminar. Es como hojear un libro de historia, una mezcla de arquitectura, política y vida cotidiana, con el inconfundible sabor de La Habana. Es un lujo que no cuesta nada, pero que vale un montón.
When I reach 30th Street, the landscape changes a little, but the feeling of having seen something unique stays etched in memory. Because a walk along 5th Avenue isn't just walking. It's like flipping through a history book—a mix of architecture, politics, and everyday life, with the unmistakable flavor of Havana. It's a luxury that costs nothing but is worth a great deal.
