Adoro caminar por la cuidad, descubrir nuevos lugares, admirar la belleza arquitectónica del entorno. Cada vez que puedo busco la manera de explorar nuevos sitios. Hoy les haré un tour por la famosa calle 100 de La Habana, perteneciente al municipio Marianao. Mi recorrido llegó hasta la avenida 251 que es también la Carretera Central de Cuba.

I adore walking through the city, discovering new places, admiring the architectural beauty of the surroundings. Whenever I can, I find a way to explore new sites. Today, I will give you a tour of the famous 100th Street in Havana, which belongs to the Marianao municipality. My journey took me all the way to 251st Avenue, which is also Cuba's Central Highway.
El sol del mediodía se aferraba a mi piel sobre estas aceras desgastadas y por supuesto que enseguida saqué mi sombrilla de mi bolso lleno de "cosas". Había decidido, por pura curiosidad, caminar por esta calle por la que tantas veces había pasado en auto o en guagua, y como no tenía prisa, el objetivo era, precisamente, demorarme viendo cada detalle.
The midday sun clung to my skin on these worn-out sidewalks, and of course, I immediately took my umbrella out of my bag full of "things." I had decided, out of pure curiosity, to walk down this street that I had passed by so many times in a car or bus, and since I was in no hurry, the goal was precisely to take my time, seeing every detail.
Calle 100 está llena de casa elegantes y antiguas que pertenecen a un reparto residencial que, en otros tiempos, era de gente rica y poderosa, muchos de los cuales abandonaron Cuba después del triunfo de la Revolución. Hoy aquí viven, además, personas a quienes el gobierno les dio esas casas y también muchas de ellas pasaron a ser establecimientos públicos, dígase policlinicos, escuelas, bodegas, sedes de empresas, etc, etc, etc.
100th Street is full of elegant,old houses that belong to a residential district that, in other times, was for the rich and powerful, many of whom left Cuba after the triumph of the Revolution. Today, people to whom the government gave those houses also live here, and many of them have become public establishments, such as polyclinics, schools, grocery stores, company headquarters, etc., etc., etc.
Comencé mi caminata y empecé a descubrir a ambos lados, la belleza. No eran viviendas vulgares, sino mansiones elegantes y cada una parecía tener su propia personalidad, su propio estilo arquitectónico. La primera que llamó mi atención fue esta con sus columnas y ventanales, una joya.
I began my walk and started to discover the beauty on both sides. These were not ordinary homes, but elegant mansions, and each one seemed to have its own personality, its own architectural style. The first one that caught my attention was this one with its columns and large windows, a jewel.
Por lo que pude ver, hay mucho colorido por esta zona, esto también se debe a la costumbre de pintar las casas para fin de año, aunque dicha costumbre solo algunos "bendecidos" pueden mantenerla en estos difíciles tiempos.
From what I could see, there is a lot of color in this area; this is also due to the custom of painting houses for the new year, although in these difficult times, only some "blessed" ones can maintain that custom.

Hay muchas casa de aire colonial y otras un poco más modernas. Mi imaginación vuela y comienzo a fabular sobre las miles de historias de amor y secretos que se pueden encontrar detrás de esas paredes, de esas impecables fachadas. Imagino desayunos tranquilos en comedores lujosos, servidos por la servidumbre de la casa, sus patios interiores soleados, las pequeñas bibliotecas personales llenas de libros, los salones con techos de puntal altos, y hasta las risas infantiles y el corretear alborotado de algún niño travieso y curioso.
There are many houses with a colonial air and others that are a bit more modern. My imagination soars, and I begin to fantasize about the thousands of love stories and secrets that could be found behind those walls, behind those impeccable facades. I imagine quiet breakfasts in luxurious dining rooms, served by the house servants, their sunny interior patios, the small personal libraries full of books, the living rooms with high ceilings, and even the children's laughter and the noisy running around of some mischievous and curious child.
Seguí avanzando y mis pasos se mezclada con con el canto lejano de algun pájaro dada la abundante vegetación. La calle es recta con un leve empinado (loma) pero nada alarmante para quien la recorre. No hay muchas lomas en La Habana.
I continued on my way,and my footsteps mixed with the distant song of some bird, given the abundant vegetation. The street was straight with a slight incline (hill), but nothing alarming for someone walking it. There aren't many hills in Havana.
Caminar, para mi, es un excelente ejercicio de relajación que utilizo siempre que puedo, me ayuda a desconectar de los problemas y a meditar. Tambien hay hermosos jardines en estas casas, algunos minuciosamente cuidados donde se nota la mano de un jardinero experimentado. En algunos portales vi que tambien hay columpios para recrearse y disfrutar de la brisa.
Walking, for me, is an excellent relaxation exercise that I use whenever I can; it helps me disconnect from problems and meditate. There are also beautiful gardens in these houses, some meticulously cared for, where the hand of an experienced gardener is noticeable. In some portals, I also saw swings for recreation and enjoying the breeze.
Mi mirada se detuvo en detalles como los número de las casas hechos con azulejos artesanales y los picaportes de metal con forma de león y otras. Mi caminata terminó en la intersección de 100 y 51, una de las más conocidas de la capital habanera. Este recorrido ha sido solo por un tramo que abarca unas seis cuadras, pero las calle 100 es mucho más que eso. Fue, sin dudas, una experiencia visual gratificante.
My gaze stopped on details like the house numbers made with handmade tiles and the metal doorknobs shaped like lions and others. My walk ended at the intersection of 100th and 51st, one of the most well-known in the capital city of Havana. This journey has only been along a section covering about six blocks, but 100th Street is much more than that. It was, without a doubt, a gratifying visual experience.
