Hello everyone, otaku friends, I hope you are all doing great today, this time I want to share a new review, a few weeks ago I finished watching Fate/Extra Last Encore... and it was like trying to put together a puzzle that is missing half the pieces, if you are new to Fate, this series is not for beginners, it throws you right into the entire Fate universe, it assumes you already know all the lore, the weird names and how crazy it all is... I can tell you this from my own experience, from the beginning you realize that this is a spin-off of Fate, based on the PSP game Fate/Extra, but it is not a normal adaptation, no, it goes off on a tangent and throws you into an alternate reality, a "what if?" where the main character loses in the original game.

The idea sounds cool, designed for fans who want something new... but if you expect a calm explanation of the rules of magic and how the Servant world works, forget it, they're throwing you into the water without a life jacket. The world they create is purposefully confusing, and they throw a ton of terms at you without explaining anything, you feel like you've skipped several chapters... but let's see, let's talk about what really stands out in Fate/Extra Last Encore: the animation! This is from SHAFT, the famous studio, and if you're familiar with their work, you know they have a style... let's say... unique! Imagine this: characters that move as if gravity didn't exist, very long dialogues that seem like theater monologues, and psychedelic backgrounds that make you a little dizzy. There are some episodes, especially those of Alice in Wonderland, that are pure experimental animation... I stopped and stopped several times just to see how beautiful it looked, even though the story sometimes made no sense!

Hola a todos, amigos otakus, espero que estén súper bien hoy, en esta ocasión les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, hace unas semanas termine de ver Fate/Extra Last Encore... y fue como tratar de armar un rompecabezas al que le faltan la mitad de las piezas, si eres nuevo en Fate, esta serie no es para principiantes, te tira de una a todo el universo Fate, asume que ya te sabes todo el lore, los nombres raros y lo loco que es todo.. se los digo por experiencia propia, desde el inicio te das cuenta que esto es un spin-off de Fate, basado en el juego de PSP Fate/Extra, pero no es una adaptación normal, no, se va por las ramas y te mete en una realidad alterna, un "¿qué pasaría si?" donde el prota pierde en el juego original.

La idea suena chévere, pensada para los fans que quieren algo nuevo.. pero si esperas que te expliquen las reglas de magia y cómo funciona el mundo de los servants con calma, olvídalo, te tiran al agua sin salvavidas. El mundo que crean es confuso a propósito, y te sueltan un montón de términos sin explicarte nada, te sientes como si te hubieras saltado varios capítulos.. pero a ver, hablemos de lo que sí llama la atención en Fate/Extra Last Encore: ¡la animación! Esto es de SHAFT, el estudio famoso, y si conoces su trabajo, sabes que tienen un estilo... digamos.. único! Imagínate esto: personajes que se mueven como si no existiera la gravedad, diálogos larguísimos que parecen monólogos de teatro, y fondos psicodélicos que te marean un poco, hay algunos episodios, sobre todo los de Alicia en el País de las Maravillas, que son pura animación experimental.. yo me quedé pausando varias veces solo para ver lo bonito que se veía, aunque la historia a veces no tuviera ni pies ni cabeza!

Now, let's talk about the plot, because this is where things get... interesting, to put it mildly. Fate/Extra Last Encore wants to sell us a world that's both virtual and kind of weird fantasy—a digital world where the Holy Grail War rages in a place that's more confusing than the Minotaur's Labyrinth, but that still grabs you a little. The idea on paper is simple: a virtual world where the protagonist, Hakuno, with his Servant, Saber, has to overcome levels by defeating powerful bosses. But when it comes down to it, the story is anything but simple. The series throws strange terms and convoluted explanations at you without even bothering to tell you what's going on. More than once, I felt like I was back in school trying to understand a super complicated book written by someone who knew what they were talking about... but I couldn't understand a word! It seems like the creators thought: "If you don't know anything about Fate before, it's on you!"

And speaking of Hakuno, the protagonist... what a bland character at first, boring as hell, with memory problems and zero charisma, it's hard to connect with him because he seems to have no personality at all... but, let's see, to be fair, as the series progresses, you can see a little bit of development. There's an attempt to make him grow as a character, but it's not like he'll blow your mind either. To be honest, how boring he was at the beginning almost made me turn off the series, I swear! But if you stick with it for a while, in the end something rewards you... then there's Saber—well, Nero, this was what I liked the most... unlike other Sabers who are always serious and like robots, Nero is a breath of fresh air. She's cheerful, fun, has a relaxed vibe that makes her super charismatic, yes, she's a little self-centered, but she balances that out with how affectionate and cool she is, so in the end you grow fond of her no matter what... these contrasts in her personality give life to the series, and the truth is that she brings energy to an anime that at times feels a bit dull.

Ahora, a ver, hablemos de la trama, porque aquí la cosa se pone.. interesante, por decirlo de alguna manera, Fate/Extra Last Encore nos quiere vender un mundo que es virtual y a la vez como de fantasía medio rara—un mundo digital donde la Guerra del Santo Grial se arma en un lugar que es más confuso que laberinto de Minotauro, pero que igual te atrapa un poco, la idea en papel es fácil: un mundo virtual donde el prota, Hakuno, con su Servant, Saber, tiene que pasar niveles derrotando jefes poderosos, pero a la hora de la verdad, la historia es todo menos sencilla. La serie te lanza términos raros y explicaciones enredadas sin siquiera molestarse en decirte qué onda, más de una vez, me sentí como si estuviera otra vez en el colegio tratando de entender un libro súper complicado que escribió alguien que sabía de qué hablaba... ¡pero yo no entendía ni papa! Parece que los creadores pensaron: "Si no sabes de Fate de antes, ¡allá tú!".

Y hablando de Hakuno, el protagonista.. qué personaje más soso al principio, aburrido a morir, con problemas de memoria y cero carisma, es difícil conectar con él porque parece que no tiene ni personalidad.. pero, a ver, siendo justos, conforme avanza la serie, se le ve un poquito de desarrollo. Hay un intento de que crezca como personaje, pero tampoco es que te vuele la cabeza, para ser sincero, lo aburrido que era al principio casi me hace apagar la serie, ¡te lo juro! Pero si aguantas un poco, al final algo recompensa.. luego está Saber—bueno, Nero, esto sí fue de lo que más me gustó.. a diferencia de otras Sabers que siempre son serias y como robots, Nero es un respiro de aire fresco. Es alegre, divertida, tiene una onda relajada que la hace súper carismática, sí, es un poco egocéntrica, pero eso lo equilibra con lo cariñosa y buena onda que es, así que al final le agarras cariño sí o sí.. estos contrastes en su personalidad le dan vida a la serie, y la verdad es que ella le pone energía a un anime que por ratos se siente medio apagado.

On the other hand, we have Rin, who plays a very different role here, she's more like the group's guide, the one who helps Hakuno and Saber advance on their journey... she even uses machine guns in some scenes, which is weird and even funny! But be careful here, sometimes she feels like "a boring secondary character", her function in the story is clear, but she never has an epic moment that makes her stand out beyond being the typical "girl who helps when everything gets complicated". But let’s be fair, despite the story having its issues—how convoluted it is, the unexplained terms, and the plot twists that come out of nowhere—technically Fate/Extra Last Encore shines.

The animation is top-notch, and the fights are choreographed in a way that mesmerizes you, even if you don’t really understand why they’re fighting. The music is another strong point, it maintains the Fate vibe and gives each fight a brutal energy. And the opening and ending songs... wow, what songs! They’re some of the best in the series, without a doubt. Something that blew my mind is how much this anime divides fans. If you’re a fan of the Fate franchise from the beginning or if you played the original game, you might find this alternative version of the story interesting. Fate/Extra Last Encore has that “for experts only” vibe, which might hook some who love the complexity of the saga.

Por otro lado tenemos a Rin, que aquí hace un papel bien distinto, es más como la guía del grupo, la que ayuda a Hakuno y Saber a avanzar en su viaje.. hasta usa ametralladoras en algunas escenas, lo cual es raro y hasta da risa! pero ojo aquí, a veces se siente como "un personaje secundario aburrido", su función en la historia está clara, pero nunca tiene un momento así épico que la haga destacar más allá de ser la típica "chica que ayuda cuando todo se complica". Pero a ver, seamos justos, a pesar de que la historia tiene sus rollos—lo enredada que es, los términos que no explican, y los giros de trama que salen de la nada—en lo técnico Fate/Extra Last Encore se luce..

La animación es de primera, y las peleas están coreografiadas de una manera que te hipnotiza, aunque a veces no entiendas muy bien por qué se están peleando, la música es otro punto fuerte, mantiene la onda de Fate y le da una energía brutal a cada combate.. y el opening y el ending... ¡ufff, qué temazos! Son de lo mejorcito de la serie, sin duda.. algo que me voló la cabeza es lo mucho que divide este anime a los fans, si eres fan de la franquicia de Fate desde siempre o si jugaste el juego original, puede que esta versión alternativa de la historia te parezca interesante. Fate/Extra Last Encore tiene esa onda de "solo para entendidos", que a algunos que aman la complejidad de la saga los puede enganchar.

If you're looking for an easy-to-follow story, with characters that hook you from the first minute and a world that's explained without too much fuss, maybe you'll be fine with this anime. There were several times I wondered if it was worth continuing to watch, trying to understand the mess they were telling me. There were times when I felt like I was watching a weird, pointless work of art rather than a series. And yes, the visuals are insane, but the fact that the story is so confusing left me wanting something more... normal, let's say. When I started watching this series, I honestly wasn't expecting much. I'd heard it wasn't the best choice to start with Fate, but I was curious to see what SHAFT would do with a world as complicated as this one. The result was a strange, confusing, and at the same time, gripping journey. I spent so much time trying to understand what was going on with the story that I realized it had, in its own way, left me thinking.

So, what are we left with? For me, Fate/Extra Last Encore is a bit of a good and a bad anime... on one hand, the animation is brutal, the music is powerful, and Nero is a character you like, but on the other hand, the story is a mess, the main character is boring for almost the entire series, and they never bother to explain everything to you easily... my rating: 6/10. It’s not a total disaster—the technical aspects and the originality are evident—but as a story on its own or to get into Fate, it doesn’t appeal to many people... in the end, it’s an anime for those who like challenges in stories and love Fate completely... if you like its weird style, or if you have the patience to understand confusing stories, you might like it... but if you’re looking for something easy to watch and well-crafted, it’s better to start somewhere else, and well, friends... that’s all for today, we’ll see you in the next reviews, take care! Si lo que buscas es una historia fácil de seguir, con personajes que te enganchen desde el minuto uno y un mundo que te expliquen sin tanto rollo, tal vez y este anime te da igual, hubo varias veces que me pregunté si valía la pena seguir viendo, tratando de entender el desmadre que me estaban contando, hubo momentos en los que sentí que más que una serie, estaba viendo una obra de arte rara sin sentido. Y sí, los visuales son una locura, pero que la historia sea tan confusa me dejó con ganas de algo más... normal, digamos.. cuando empecé a ver esta serie, la verdad no esperaba mucho, había escuchado que no era la mejor opción para empezar con Fate, pero me daba curiosidad ver qué haría SHAFT con un mundo tan complicado como este.. el resultado fue un viaje raro, confuso y a la vez como que te atrapa, pasé tanto tiempo tratando de entender qué onda con la historia, que me di cuenta de que, a su manera, me había dejado pensando.

Entonces, ¿en qué quedamos? para mí, Fate/Extra Last Encore es un poco bueno y malo.. por un lado, la animación es brutal, la música es potente y Nero es un personaje que te cae bien, pero, por otro lado, la historia es un caos, el prota es aburrido casi toda la serie y nunca se toman la molestia de explicártelo todo fácil.. mi calificación: un 6/10. No es un desastre total—lo técnico y lo original se ven—pero como historia sola o para entrarle a Fate, no engancha a mucha gente.. al final, es un anime para los que les gustan los retos en las historias y aman con todo Fate.. si te gusta su estilo raro, o si tienes paciencia para entender historias confusas, puede que te guste.. pero si buscas algo fácil de ver y bien armado, mejor empieza por otro lado, y bueno amigos.. hasta aquí todo por hoy, nos veremos en las próximas reseñas, cuídense mucho!
