RE: My Napkin Collection

I had never heard of collecting napkins, but it seems there is someone somewhere collecting almost every type of thing. It makes sense that if it was a "thing" in your area to do so, then why not?

I can't remember who it was, but it seems I read where someone was responsible for going through their deceased Mother's or Aunt's things and one of those things turned out to be a napkin collection.

Lots of fun designs you have there.

Sort:

People collect all kinds of things, it depends on what you like. This was a thing when I was a little girl and I hope it is till a thing, but as we evolve with online life, these physical things seem to have less value. Now people are collecting NFTs, useless likes, you name it :)

I bet you could use a napkin or two in your art, or am I wrong?

Yes... people do collect all kinds of things, valuable and not. There is nothing wrong with collecting something you like. For most of my life I thought I wasn't a collector, but as time went on, I have ended up with several. I didn't intentionally decide to collect them, but I liked them and next thing you know, they turned into a collection.

The only thing I collected on purpose for a while was the Old World Style glass Christmas ornaments, around my late 20s and into my 30s. I have a lot, but of course I slowed down after that. I still manage to pick one up now and then. I didn't see it as a collection simply because it was Christmas ornaments and it is not unusual to acquire new ones to add to the hoard.

Then somewhere about 6 to 8 years ago a collection of white tin angels began. I didn't buy the first one intending to collect, but one led to another and.... it's a collection. LOL They look like they are made of the old pressed tin ceiling tiles. Some have round metal heads, others have wooden heads. They look like they would be old, but they really aren't.

I suppose I also have a small collection of vintage cased glass vases and pitchers. ha... hmmmm wonder how many of something you have to have to be considered a collection. 😄

Oh! ...and the napkins, I have a container that has a few pretty napkins, not many and some really pretty tissue paper for my art. Some people use them, but usually their thinness and obsorbancey cause them to be difficult to work with when you wet them, so it didn't take long for me to not want to use them. I normally don't, but I still have some that were donated to the cause early on. I figured one day, something would come up that I could use them for.

Looks like at some point or another in our life, we start collecting things. Collecting glass Christmas ornaments must be fantastic, if you you have plenty of storing space for them.

You're right, these napkins get wet pretty fast, but I have a plan for a collage and it's perfect for that. Let's hope next week I can start working on it as the idea has been brewing in my head for some time, but when I finish my work at the evening, it's already too late, or I'm too tired for creative works.
