Some of the best monuments to visit in Havana [eng/spa]

Havana has many interesting monuments, ideal to be included in the tourist tours that can be planned throughout the city. Among my favorites is the one dedicated to General Antonio Maceo, who is one of the most renowned figures in Cuban history.
This monument has the peculiarity of being located very close to Havana's Malecon, and thanks to its excellent location, I visited it for the first time. It was one of those summer afternoons where the heat is the perfect excuse to walk near the sea, accompanied by my group of friends. I must admit that as soon as I saw the monument, I crossed the street to take a close look at every detail.

La Habana cuenta con muchísimos monumentos interesantes, ideales para incluirlos en los recorridos turísticos que se pueden planificar por toda la ciudad. Entre mis preferidos se encuentra el dedicado al General Antonio Maceo, quien constituye una de las figuras más reconocidas de la historia cubana.
Este monumento tiene la peculiaridad de que se encuentra ubicado muy cerca del Malecón habanero, y gracias a su excelente localización, lo visité por primera vez. Fue una de esas tardes de verano donde el calor es la excusa perfecta para caminar cerca del mar, acompañada por mi grupo de amigos. Debo admitir que en cuanto vi el monumento, crucé la calle para observar con detenimiento cada detalle.

The exact location of this colossal work is right on the left side of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical and Surgical Hospital, on San Lazaro Street in Havana's central Vedado. As a curious fact, the Ameijeiras was designed and built with the purpose of becoming the National Bank of Cuba. Therefore, it is logical that this building stands out in the city for its impressive architecture.

La localización exacta de esta colosal obra es justo en el lateral izquierdo del hospital clínico quirúrgico Hermanos Ameijeiras, en la calle San Lázaro del céntrico Vedado habanero. Como dato curioso les cuento que, el Ameijeiras, fue diseñado y construido con el objetivo de convertirse en el Banco Nacional de Cuba. Por ello, es lógico que esta edificación destaque en la ciudad por su impresionante arquitectura.

The monumental complex is built in granite and bronze, being its most outstanding element the representation designed in bronze of the figure of Maceo, which is very consistent with the pseudonym by which this character is also known: the Bronze Titan.
At the front base of the monument is the figure of Mariana Grajales, who was the mother of Maceo and also had a leading role at the historical level at that time. In addition, figures that embody the virtues of action, thought, justice and law are represented; taking into account that the Titan was the bearer of these characteristics.

El conjunto monumental está construido en granito y bronce, siendo su elemento más destacado la representación diseñada en bronce de la figura de Maceo, lo cual está muy acorde al seudónimo por el que también es conocido este personaje: el Titán de Bronce.
En la base frontal del monumento se encuentra la figura de Mariana Grajales, quien fue la madre de Maceo y también tuvo un papel protagónico a nivel histórico en aquella época. Además se representan figuras que encarnan las virtudes de acción, pensamiento, justicia y ley; teniendo en cuenta que el Titán era portador de estas características.

I think it is the best option, because in addition to enjoying an impressive monumental ensemble, it offers the possibility of knowing a little about historical data related to the figure of the general and some of his very brave deeds.

Añadir que el monumento constituye el centro del parque del mismo nombre, el cual es visitado por cientos de personas cada día, fundamentalmente de muchos niños.
Sin ninguna duda, recomiendo ir con un guía a este sitio. Considero que es la opción más acertada, pues además de disfrutar de un conjunto monumental impresionante, ofrece la posibilidad de conocer un poco sobre datos históricos relacionados con la figura del general y algunas de sus hazañas muy valerosas.
