Having cliques existing in office is certainly not a good thing but it naturally happens due to how people tend to feel more comfortable hanging out with those that they click well together. Some cliques might have big influence over others because they are made up of a number of top performers or some of them might have members in leadership positions and being labelled as the best clique.
But when there are cliques, there will be those that are not part of clique. These people might end up having conflict with those in cliques or even become victims of gossip or unfair favouritism which can affect promotion as well. There could also be tension that arise and reduce collaboration efforts. This is why, we should avoid over-socializing in cliques and promote inclusivity, encourage communication amongst everyone instead of within cliques. Cliques are powerful, but if not properly managed, it creates unnecessary problems for the team which makes it even harder to manage as a whole.
