Respect while it is something that everybody wants, it is not something that comes because you want it. This is something that I see happening whenever we see younger workers getting promoted to leadership positions in the company. And often when they demanded for respect to a point where they might as tell their fellow direct reports, "Respect me!" but end up, they are not getting what they desire and getting a totally opposite response.
One must recognize that power does not equate to respect. When somebody just rise to power, they have to work on ground up and build up their rapport to garner respect from people around them. It is definitely not a work in the park and sometimes might even involve the need to proof one's capability and also abilities in various situations. Be humble, helpful and always seek to understand others first and the respect will slowly come to you. If ever, it is not, do also consider speaking to a professional life coach.
