Hi community!
The black and yellows showed off with a spectacular win that gives them a boost in the Bundesliga before visiting Montjuïc.
It's always good to take a breath before leaving home. Borussia Dortmund made that clear, turning what looked like a very difficult away game into a walkover by thrashing Freiburg 4-1.
Despite having a match against Barça looming, Niko Kovac decided to bring his best players back onto the pitch. The Croatian coach's plan worked perfectly, with goals from Adeyemi, Chukwuemeka, Guirassy, and Gittens completing a solid afternoon for the Black and Yellows. Eggestein made up for the result with a late goal that failed to hide the disappointment of the home fans.
In the first 45 minutes, the game was more evenly matched, with chances at both ends, until Karim Adeyemi, the brightest of the Ruhr area players, opened the scoring after taking advantage of a rebound in the box, shaking off a marker, and unleashing a powerful shot past goalkeeper Müller.
Already in the second half, the Freiburg goalkeeper succumbed to the Black and Yellows' attacks. In the 51st minute, Chukwuemeka put the game on track with a shot from outside the box that deflected off a Freiburg defender and wound up in the net. The Englishman's goal was a devastating blow and paved the way for a rout.
At the hour mark, Niko Kovac began to shuffle his bench, focusing on the Champions League clash with Barça, but instead of slowing down, the team showed a decisive edge on the pitch. In the 68th minute, Chukwuemeka pulled off a brilliant move to pass to Julian Brandt, who was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper and instead of finishing, he assisted Guirassy to make it 3-0.
Dortmund didn't stop there, and after a brilliant technical effort from Gross, Ryerson crossed into the box to find Bynoe-Gittens, who headed in the fourth goal 12 minutes from time. Just when it looked like the 4-0 scoreline was a done deal, Eggestein scored the consolation goal for a home side that had tried and failed to win.
A second consecutive Bundesliga win for Borussia Dortmund, who climbed to eighth place and remains in the fight for European competition. Now with their homework done in Freiburg, Borussia prepares for a week that includes a date with Barça and then a Klassiker match against Bayern Munich.
See You soon!
