A younger titoker as been trending recently for some very obvious reasons, what he did has some how shed more lights on what we knew all along..
When I saw this I knew it was a well calculated plot by him to cause a controversy and go viral, as you must know the web2 social media rely heavily on traffic and engagement so if you can do anything to attract the numbers that's how you earn.
This young guy put out a vacancy post for a camera man, someone to carry his camera all day following him and shooting videos for his content, with a monthly salary of 500k, applicant must be a master degree holder, only 20 applicants are allowed of which he will hire just two after the interview, obviously the interview session turned out to be an actual content as he turned the whole thing to a show filming it, guess what it eventually went viral and for a while week every one's been talking about it.
Let's carefully analyze this, just any reasonable person can carry a camera and do recording, why was this young guy requesting for a master degree holder 🤔 for employment with a mouth watering offer of 500k, knowing well that it would be so hard to resist.
Now in this part of the world to even get a job that pays that high is very rare to come by cause survival in here is not really a function of what school you went to or what degree you have in your bag its a matter of your survival intincts....
a stain on academics struggle
Honestly speaking this has been my curiosity thing right from while I was in school, even before I got admission to study, I knew getting a well paying job won't come that easy, not just in my country but in all part of the world, imagine that every year hundreds and thousands of graduate flow into the labour market, seeking for jobs, meanwhile they are no jobs available to accommodate this number of job seekers, so what option does that leave them? What chance for survival do they have? Anything will look like a sweet deal, so when the young man made that offer for a camera role and with such a pay, who wouldn't apply?...
It wasn't a matter of what degree he wanted as a criteria for employment it was just a matter of the fact that people are desperate, people are frustrated, the degree in that closet won't put food on their table, there are no jobs any more so therefore why won't they jump on any available offer that can safe them of starvation.
Is there still dignity in academics struggles
So does that mean there is no dignity in academic struggles? Sleepless night classes, lectures, all those hard work put in to the books, is there no reward for it? Are there no people who are excelling in their acedemic fields, actually doing what they studied?, there are no jobs yet there are those who these jobs actually look for, this stain in academics struggles by this young tiktoker is just revealing the obvious truth to us, what we knew all along but fail to realise it, it confirms what I've known all along that it's not the life in school but the life after school.
While in school a lot of persons in there would sort their way through, paying for high grades, avoiding the stress, avoiding to pay the price as at when necessary, then there was life after school which will teach them the toughest lessons of their lives, you see everything in life has a process if you play smart and jump any of those process somehow you will experience that process again and if you had avoid that it you will likely fail again.
This is my conclusion never put your eggs in one basket, not in a country as ours, you have to think wide, different strategies in case one way closes, you can easily switch lane and never be caught off-guard, lives survival is not only a function of whatever degree you studied or hold but how intelligently one is able to apply what they know to make a decent living......
