Wednesday walk, day workers house

in Wednesday Walk8 days ago

Hello wednesday walkers,

I was wondering around the town of Harmelen and there I came across an old house in the middle of a nature area. This house was one of four that were build here in the year 1862. It was build as a government social housing project to give the day workers of the surrounding farms a place they could life. Day workers are people who worked in farms around this area. They were only working during the high season during harvest or in spring when the fields had to be worked. that didn't payed them a big salary and because of that they couldn't afford a normal house. But they were essential workers and so the government provided them cheap housing.

I started with this trail in between the farm fields.

And soon I came across this gate that let me on to the property of the day workers housing.

This terrain is completely maintained by volunteers and they are organizing tours and events in the huge garden to make a little bit of money to maintain the house.

But this place is just so peaceful next to the water and in between the farm fields.
Look at it, I was just in time to enjoy the golden hour. it was one of the last days of winter, it was very cold that morning, minus 5 Celsius, and the sun already felt warm here.

that's very well kept for being a 150ish years ago structure... suit well for a farming zone that views

They have restored it and maintaining it very wel.

How wonderful, for me to visit a place like this would be a dream come true, as well as a blessing. How nice that among so many people they maintain it and also that it can be visited to explore. What I loved most were those shoes on the wall and the ice still visible on the water. Awesome bro, thanks so much for sharing it here! ✌️
