Hello wonderful Ladies in the house, welcome to a new week with a new contest topic it is such a pleasure to be among you all and today I would be participating on the topic which says: Tell me about a female character in a movie, or a book, that you identify with, or that inspired you. What message did it leave you with?.
Lately I have been reading alot of novels due to the course am studying and I have been coming across wonderful characters from Chinua Achebe's novels to Buchi Emecheta to Eric Ganan Pam and many more writers who centered some of their novels on feminism how females can advocate for their liberty but today I would be talking about a novel "So long a letter" by Mariama Bâ it centered on so many crucial themes which are: women's empowerment, polygamy, marriage and relationship, Identity and self discovery and many more themes so I would be highlighting two friends from the novel and basing on one.
We have Ramatoulaye the protagonist and main character in the novel and her friend Aissatou, they have a strong bond more like sisters from different mother's they were friends from childhood who kept in touch and helped each other in times of trouble, the character in this novel that I most resonate with is the main character Ramatoulaye, she have twelve children and has been married for 25 years before her husband decided to marry again behind her back with his daughter's best friend. In this novel Ramatoulaye even though abandoned by her husband after he married the second wife took up the responsibilities of rising her children with no support from the husband not that he wanted to but he totally forgot or would I say ignored them.
I saw her struggles to cater for her children, her struggles of how she tend to survive even in those hardship, there were even instances where she and her children had to be taking one public transport to the other even though their father had cars in the compound which were not driven, her loneliness where she had to endure in the cold nights while her husband was with another, her letter to her friend spoke alot about her ordeal at that period which brought me to the point where I saw part of myself in her more like I felt those itching shoes she was putting on because it is part of what am facing now.
Living now has not been easy we struggle to survive and if not for God we do not know where or what would have become of us, Ramatoulaye story inspired me in the way that it is not always easy but because of the people looking up to us we must keep pushing, it is not always easy at the beginning but we know there is light at the end of the tunnel, Aissatou her friend also was an inspiring character both to Ramatoulaye her best friend and I the reader, they showed us that to break through as a woman or female it is possible even though there will be obstacles on the way, they showed the importance of education not only education but female education and independence, Mariama Bâ also portrayed that experiences can shape us to the better thereby making us know our identity and discover our selves.
If you have not read the novel I urge you to do so because you would be learning alot from this women's story. Thank you for this opportunity to share this with you all, thank you my readers, to my commenters and to my voters I am so grateful, I still remain your favorite girl @graceze do remain blessed 😘✌️.
