Hi Galberto, thanks for leaving a comment. We can say that before Heisenberg, the electron was imagined as a small planet orbiting the nucleus along a precise orbit. The uncertainty principle demonstrated that an exact trajectory cannot be known. Consequently, the concept of an orbit was abandoned and that of an orbital was introduced, that is, a region of space where an electron is most likely to be found.
