Happy new week to all the beautiful ladies of Hive! I hope this week brings you nothing but positive energy and great vibes. This week's contest is all about travel, and I believe our dear sister @jane1289 is truly a travel enthusiast.
When it comes to my own travel routine, I personally enjoy traveling with friends. I love having company because it comes with lots of gist, laughter, and discussions that make the journey more lively and enjoyable.
I remember one particular trip back in 2023 when I was traveling . My colleagues and I had to travel from Abuja to Port Harcourt for a meeting with key stakeholders in the health sector. At that time, we had to pass through Akwa Ibom first then continue the journey the next day because there were hardly any vehicles willing to make such a long-distance trip directly.
That journey taught me something important: conversations help keep drivers awake. About five hours into the journey, almost everyone in the vehicle, including myself, had fallen asleep as if we were given sleeping pills!
That was when I also realized that sleep can be contagious especially when you're sitting close to the driver.
I was seated at the back (next row to driver), and from where I sat, I could clearly see the driver’s face. He looked like he was about to doze off behind the wheel.
Honestly, God has saved me from a lot of dangerous situations, and I remain truly grateful for His protection.
Do you know I spied on the driver through the front mirror and noticed that his eyes were already looking like someone about to doze off? Immediately,
I got scared and tapped my friend. Boom! I notified her, and she also saw that the driver was almost sleeping on the steering wheel.
I told the driver that I didn’t mind if he stopped to take a nap before continuing the journey. He laughed and told me I had no idea how far we still were from our destination.
How far? I yelled and you are sleeping on steering? Sleep left my eyes Immediately.
That was when I started a conversation with my friend, and before we knew it, the driver became more alert, sleep had left his eyes.
Can you imagine that for over three hours, I kept the discussion going with my friend while everyone else in the vehicle was still fast asleep.
Surprisingly, the driver also joined in the conversation, and we all kept talking until we arrived safely at our destination at night.
I noticed some people are very good in sleeping. Someone going on a long distant journey, sleeping until arrived at destination. I was curious about such attitude.
That was when I truly realized the power of traveling with people. Your travel companions can become your gist partners, and sometimes, even the driver may enjoy the conversation too. There’s no way that driver would have fallen asleep with that kind of engaging atmosphere because we talked over everything, including Nigerian problems.
This is a kind encouragement to all the women of Hive: if you're going on a long-distance trip, please make sure you travel with someone you can talk with. Be alert and pay attention to the driver. He’s human—not a machine—and sleep can come unexpectedly. But your presence and interaction can help keep the journey safe for everyone.
That’s why I like traveling with someone not necessarily just friends, but anyone I can comfortably chat with while on transit.
Thanks for reading my blog up to this point. I truly appreciate the time you've spent here.
Bye for now, and do have a lovely week ahead!
