It was so hard for me to get a hold of this book but at last I found it at a library and completed it in one sitting.
What initially draws me to this book is the fact that Poirot has to investigate a murder case that took place 16 years ago. It sounds impossible to me but I must never underestimate Poirot. He can always do the impossible and he also does this time. However, what keeps me hooked on it is how beautifully written the characters are. My favorite character has gotta be Elsa Greer. I’m mesmerized by everything about her. I don’t agree with everything she does and she is not perfect in any way but I’m drawn to her flaws and depth, which make her really human.
I have tried my best to find out who the murderer is but I fail once again. (Well-played, Christie.) The plot seems simple but there is a twist, which makes the revelation of who the murderer is so satisfying.
Plot: 7/10
Characterization: 10/10
Overall: 4.25/5
To be honest, this almost gets on my top 5 Agatha Christie books.
The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that I have to read the events on the day of the murder and the day before that for more than five times since I have to see them from 5 different perspectives, which is kinda understandable but it bores me.
