Vows

Divorce rates seem to be going down according to the stats, but this is largely due to the massive reduction in marriage rates too. A lot of people these days are opting not to take the vow and simply move on with their lives. I am very pro marriage, but even that obvious bias doesn't gloss over the fact that frequent divorce cases is what has likely led to this breakdown of values.

I personally think that at the fundamental of broken marriages is a lack of understanding. Many people recite those vows like a nursery rhyme. Few keep it to heart, and few actually know what it means. It is then obvious why there is a breakdown from one partner or the other when a lack of fundamental understanding of what taking a vow and making a commitment is all about.

I decided to use marriage as a good case in point to talk about our overall attitudes towards our respective commitments. Some of us simply don't take things seriously. I know the feeling because I've lived It. Yet if we meant every commitment, and worked hard at it, there would be less cases of premature resignations to deal with.

Of course making a commitment is hard and more than just words. It is in deeds and actions. It is through good times and bad, and it will definitely be tested.
