We have all likely come across the saying of how good times create weak people and vice versa. This proves is increasingly true as we see events unfold round the World with very different values, philosophies and agendas between wealthy nations and poor nations.
One of the dangers of abundance is the creation of false problems. We humans are probably not meant to be docile creatures and the slope from boredom to depression is a very steep one. Thus, we occupy ourselves with both real and imagined problems to give ourselves a renewed sense of meaning.
There is also the case of sheer ingratitude. A lot of beneficiaries of functional societies oftentimes fail to count their blessings. Some of them even engage in self loathing on their own societies until perhaps the chance to experience the other side (which happens rarely) and reality sets in.
As our societies become increasingly complex, even more people will become delusional with the rights and privileges they enjoy. It is one of the more fascinating unravelling of our societies. We used to imagine the future by centuries, but I think even the next decade is difficult to predict now with so many things unravelling.
