Last week, my local town of Chesterfield, UK held its very first Steampunk event. If you're not familiar with Steampunk, the simplest way to describe it is as science fiction that blends the style of the Victorian era with the machinery and invention of the Industrial Revolution. You'll often see people wearing top hats, brass goggles, and Victorian inspired clothing.
The town was filled with people wearing some excellent costumes, and it was obvious how much time had gone into creating them. There was a variety of styles, with everyone putting their own spin on the Steampunk look. One person even had a Star Trek badge on their outfit, which I thought was a nice touch.

The market stalls were a big hit, too. There were so many interesting things to look at, including cool statues, art, and jewellery. Everyone was having a good time, and the day had a really friendly atmosphere, with lots of people out and about.
It was nice to see the classic fairground carousel that I enjoyed during my childhood.
The ladies' outfits really stood out. The long dresses, lace, hats, and colourful accessories gave the event plenty of colour. Some outfits had a traditional Victorian feel. I enjoyed looking at all the different outfits because no two were the same. Every costume had something different about it.
Considering this was the town's first Steampunk event, I'd say it was a great success. Hopefully, it becomes an annual tradition because it made for a really interesting day out. It was nice to see something a little different happening locally, and whether you're a Steampunk fan or simply curious, there was plenty to see and enjoy. Here's hoping it returns next year, even bigger and better!
