I am not very fond of horror, but I wanted to immerse myself in the book Breviary of shuddering, an anthology that lives up to its title. James and In the Crypt by H.P. Lovecraft, two stories that caught my attention, perhaps because, somehow, I came to relate common elements with my surroundings.
I'll start with Quis est iste qui venit, the title is striking, I immediately identified that it was Latin and it translates Who is this who is coming?. The story revolves around Professor Parkins, a man who does not believe in paranormal events, always looking for a scientific or natural explanation to any strange event, but a series of situations will make him change his mind. The professor decides to take a trip to Burnstow to perfect his golf technique. There he makes a magnificent discovery that will change his perspective. He finds an antique whistle.
The narrator creates a disturbing atmosphere, Professor Parkins uses the whistle and from there he experiences a bone-deep fear, hallucinations become constant and the sense of threat grows gradually. We are facing the terror of the unknown, the human mind can be fragile in these scenarios.
The second story is entitled In the Crypt, the story follows George Birch, an undertaker who was insensitive, careless, crafty and used low quality wood to make the urns. One Friday, April 15, he was trapped in the crypt of Peck Vallery Cemetery. At first he was not uncomfortable and sought a way out of the dank room, but as time went on he was overcome with anguish.
It was then that he came up with a great idea to escape from the crypt: to pile up the urns to climb up and make a bigger hole. After several attempts he was exhausted, however, he climbed back up, and in moments he experienced fear because he felt that something was holding him by the ankles, he could not free himself from the tourniquet that was pressing him. Some time later he was rescued, there they tied up the loose ends to discover what happened, the end leaves you shocked, so, dear reader, be part of this narrative.
Breviary of shuddering is a book that shows off horror literature, it invites you to experience different sensations, where the supernatural becomes the protagonist. I enjoyed delving into these stories and exploring another genre. Reading is an activity that I have enjoyed since I was conscious.

Un viernes 15 de abril quedó atrapado en la cripta del cementerio Peck Vallery, al principio no le incómodo y buscó la forma de salir de aquella estancia húmeda, pero mientras el tiempo transcurría le invadía la angustia.
Fue entonces que se le ocurrió una gran idea para escapar de la cripta: apilar las urnas para escalar y realizar un agujero más grande. Luego de varios intentos estaba exhausto, sin embargo, volvió a subir, en instantes experimentó miedo porque sintió que algo lo sujetaba por los tobillos, no lograba liberarse del torniquete que lo presionaba. Tiempo después lo rescataron, allí atan cabos para descubrir lo que sucedió, el final te deja impactado, por eso, querido lector, sé parte de esta narrativa.
Breviario del estremecimiento es un libro que hace gala en la literatura del terror, invita a experimentar diferentes sensaciones, en donde lo sobrenatural viene a ser protagonista. Me gustó adentrarme en estas historias y explorar otro género. Leer es una actividad que disfruto desde que tengo conciencia.
