A little Lilac Here and There.

For a while now I’ve been allowing myself to go with the flow with my new found obsession with lilac i have made and sketched a lot that i would love to put on that list and let’s say this short I made for myself is definitely on the list so come see my process with me. 💜🤍 Hi I’m Doreen a crocheter and this is a peak inside my head.

Now where did it all start? I made this exact design in butter yellow with maroon edgings last year and I loved them so much I just made them in another color, I don’t have a lot of crochet bottoms and frankly I barely have any crochet outfits since I mostly give them out — if I forget I own an outfit it’s a sign to give it out since I may never wear them again, it’s safer that easy less hoarding— and I was like wait! I definitely have to make something to replace these ones and also in a color I can easily pair with the ones I have in my wardrobe.

Most of the times the designs I make are not out of the world and I sort of lose the words for it before I’m even done making it. I’m mostly thinking about a whole lot when I’m making it, “oh this is pretty”, “I can’t wait to wear this” and other thoughts that I have found out are really normal for designers but the flaw is once I’m done with that project it’s on to the next project and frankly I’m not very verbal so that doesn’t really help with explaining my design or how making the design made me feel.

For the most part this design was a calming break for my mind, a way to escape the pressure that come with commercial crochet, a way to just allow my brain function without extra timings, calculations, the undying need for precision and constant client communication this was just an excuse to turn off my brain and let it just do its thing with no external pressure and need for constant reference.

I think one thing crocheters and other designers tend to forget is those side projects that help us just refresh, and stay amateurs with our art.

A few years ago I was so close to quitting crochet because I sort of got lost in recreating custom orders and had no space to express myself creatively, it felt like garbage in garbage out, no whimsical no creative no sudden bloom of art in my brain I just felt like a robot with no creative energy. But balancing this and starting small just helped me do better with not losing myself in a pile of orders.

This turned out prettier than I initially anticipated it to be. I mean I did think it’ll be pretty but this was more than I expected. I can’t wait to try it on but for now, Kindly enjoy how the hours of work and yarn winding that turned into this.

Sort:

You have finally finished all the lilac yeye in the market because tell me why I went yarn shopping and the vendor said there's no more production of lilac yarn? 😫😫😂.

This is gorgeous by the way🤍

Stoppp🤣🤣🤣🤣 it’s not meeeeeee🤣🤣
