It's pretty crazy. But most of it is ignored today. About the only thing that is paid any attention to is when you turn 60 and your animal-element year comes again, that is considered the start of your second life and there is a big celebration.

              Every year I do a Japanese New Year horoscope post and mention more stuff about this cycle. I'll do it again this year around the 2nd or 3rd (give or take a few days in either direction), so keep an eye peeled for that post if you're curious for more.
