Greetings, friends.
Among the most well-known customs in my country are:
Burning an effigy representing the old year; throwing water into the street; and walking around the block with a suitcase.
Each of these represents getting rid of all the old and bad things from the previous year and moving forward with only the good. Moving forward, changing toward a better future.
All of that is great, and I like it. But my favorite tradition is being together with the whole family, in one house, to welcome the New Year.
That's the day we usually gather at my parents' house, which is the largest. All my cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, and their families go there.
That's the day our whole family gets together to wish each other a happy New Year and welcome the new year together.
I think there's no greater or better meaning: unity.
I'm not usually a woman who enjoys those kinds of gatherings. However, my son loves them, and I have to think of him because they're his family too.
Of course, there's no shortage of good drinks and plenty of food. It's very common for the celebration to start on the morning of December 31st and end the following day, January 1st.
So you can imagine the quantity and variety of food and drinks there must be to satisfy so many people.
But that's not the best part. The best part is that the day is spent laughing, sharing anecdotes, good news, and making wishes for the coming year.
I think it's the tradition I enjoy the most of all, dear @cautiva-30.

Entre las costumbres más conocidas de mi país están la de:
Quemar un muñeco que representa al año viejo; la de lanzar agua hacia la calle Y salir a caminar con una maleta de viaje por toda la cuadra.
Cada una de ellas representa eliminarnos encima todos los viejos todo lo malo del año anterior y avanzar solo con lo bueno. Avanzar, cambiar hacia un futuro mejor.
Todo eso está muy bien que me gusta. Pero la costumbre que prefiero es la de estar reunidos con toda la familia, en una sola casa, para esperar el año nuevo.
Ese es el día en que por lo general nos reunimos en la casa de mis padres que es la mayor. Hacia allí van todos mis primos tíos sobrinos y sus familias.
Ese es el día en que toda nuestra familia se reúne para desearnos un feliz año y esperarnos juntos el año nuevo.
Creo que no hay mayor ni mejor significado: la unión.
Por lo general no soy una mujer a la que le guste estar en ese tipo de reuniones. Sin embargo a mi hijo le encanta y tengo que pensar en él porque esa es su familia también.
Allí por supuesto no puede faltar la buena bebida y la comida en abundancia. Es muy habitual que la celebración comience desde la mañana de 31 y termina el día siguiente el primero de enero.
O sea que ya se imaginan la cantidad y variedad de comida y bebida que debe haber para satisfacer a tantas personas.
Pero lo bueno no es eso. Lo bueno es que ese día se pasa muy bien entre risas anécdotas, buenas noticias y deseos para el próximo año.
Creo que es la costumbre que más disfruto de todas, estimada @cautiva-30.
