Care and Concern for Oneself

When it comes to discussions like what we have in this prompt, there needs to be carefulness in the things being said or implied. This is because one can be easily misinterpreted. It could not even be a case of misinterpretation. Rather, individuals cherry-picking what suits their desires and amplifying such to convey their narratives while leaving out the other important, vital and intrinsic things mentioned, thereby leaving an unbalanced notion of what the person was saying holistically.

This is one of such discourses or topics. Positive selfishness it says. Is this good or totally bad? Like from the prompt, you can't mention selfishness and expect any sort of acceptance. It's something that's known as bad. Many of us were raised and meant to understand that living life should be selfless, void of self-centeredness or selfishness-good training. And maybe more of a balance was needed because many were not taught to care for themselves as much as they should for others.

Positive selfishness? Well, I won't be going with that flow. The fact that by values and morals-not to even go into religious connotations-selfishness has been rejected, says a lot. While I understand and agree that we need to care for ourselves, selfishness still maintains the same meaning. I don't suppose positivity can be added to negativity. However, I'll opt for something like self-care and self-concern. I believe it still emphasises the point that looking after oneself as much as for others isn't bad.

The balance we need is to bring clarity that love, care and concern for oneself is a good thing. One of the best ways we can reward our loved ones and humanity on a large scale starts with how we value and treat ourselves. It's important to have others deeply at heart which says a lot about the humanity and conscience in us. But we also need to have ourselves at heart. When we don't learn to do so, we can lose our self-esteem, productivity, growth, joy, happiness and more.

Nevertheless, it's worthy of note that there's a thin line between being really selfish and self-centered to being really concerned and caring about oneself. Many tend to hide selfishness in the guise of putting themselves first. When all is about you and there's never room for others, it's selfishness and that should never be encouraged nor absorbed in society. As much as we try to put ourselves in the picture, let it not be only us in the picture, but others as well.
