En medio del caos y la confusión, los días transcurrieron velozmente, y desde el primer día, nuestros pensamientos sólo estaban concentrados en el deseo imperioso de que pudieran rescatar muchas vidas… sabíamos que sería imposible que lo lograran todos, pero cada ser que salía con sus ojos abiertos, y llenos de lágrimas y agradecimiento, nos invadía de alegría, fe y esperanza.

Hoy ha transcurrido más de una semana, algunos han perdido la fe, muchos otros seguimos con la confianza y la seguridad de que aún hay guerreros allí debajo, orando por que las labores de rescate continúen, que no se detengan. Cada día surge una nueva luz de vida, es un renacer, es un grito profundo que dice: “Sigan buscando… no nos abandonen”.

Cada mano, cada corazón, cada patita peluda, han sido relevantes en este proceso… pero también cada donativo, cada difusión, y cada oración. Es el sentir de un pueblo maravilloso que sabe que su espíritu le indica que en medio de una tragedia, debe permanecer unido y solidario con sus hermanos. No hay cabida para otro sentimiento que no sean nobleza y empatía.

Así son mis venezolanos hermosos, los que por muchas horas olvidaron sus propias vidas y dejaron todo de lado para entregarse a esta causa que nos une cada día más. Y en medio de un silencio muy largo y doloroso, comienzan a brotar los pensamientos y las reflexiones. Hoy estoy aquí, mañana no lo sé, no dejes de decir lo que sientes, lo que piensas, esa frase bonita, ese gesto de amor, ese abrazo, esa conversación pendiente, la comida con papá y mamá, el paseo familiar, el café con un amigo.

Todo puede cambiar en un segundo, tan sólo un segundo fue suficiente para que miles de vidas cambiaran y muchas otras se apagaran para siempre, no tuvieron tiempo de pensar cómo salvarse, no hubo chance para un plan, ni para reflexionar… no, no dio tiempo a nada, sólo un segundo bastó para crear el caos. Pero dos cosas tengo seguras; la primera, es que ninguna muerte será en vano porque nos dejó enseñanzas valiosas, y nos ha permitido ser más objetivos ante la vida, y la segunda, es que vamos a renacer de las cenizas como el ave fénix. Te amamos Venezuela.

In the midst of chaos and confusion, the days passed swiftly, and from the very first day, our thoughts were focused solely on the overwhelming desire that many lives could be rescued… we knew it would be impossible to rescue them all, but each being that emerged with open eyes, filled with tears and gratitude, filled us with joy, faith, and hope.

Today, more than a week has passed. Some have lost faith, but many others of us remain confident and certain that there are still warriors down there, praying that the rescue efforts continue, that they don't stop. Each day brings a new light of life; it is a rebirth, a profound cry that says: “Keep searching… don't abandon us.”

Every hand, every heart, every furry paw has been important in this process… but so has every donation, every act of sharing, and every prayer. It is the feeling of a wonderful people who know that their spirit tells them that in the midst of tragedy, they must remain united and stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters. There is no room for any feelings other than nobility and empathy.

That's how my beautiful Venezuelans are, those who for many hours forgot their own lives and put everything aside to dedicate themselves to this cause that unites us more each day. And in the midst of a very long and painful silence, thoughts and reflections begin to surface. Today I am here, tomorrow I don't know, don't stop saying what you feel, what you think, that beautiful phrase, that gesture of love, that hug, that pending conversation, the meal with Mom and Dad, the family outing, the coffee with a friend.

Everything can change in a second; just one second was enough for thousands of lives to change and many others to be extinguished forever. They didn't have time to think about how to save themselves, there was no chance for a plan, nor to reflect… no, there was no time for anything, just one second was enough to create chaos. But I am certain of two things; The first is that no death will be in vain because it left us with valuable lessons and has allowed us to be more objective about life; and the second is that we will rise from the ashes like the phoenix. We love you, Venezuela.
