“¡Supervitaminarse y mineralizarse!“
Tenía nueve años y aún recuerdo ese resplandor titilante de la tele en blanco y negro, donde las figuras bailaban en sombras maravillosas. Era la década de 1960 y el mundo parecía enorme y misterioso, salvo cuando la Hormiga Atómica aparecía en la pantalla. Con su grito inconfundible: “¡Arriba y a por ellos, Hormiga Atómica!”, el pequeño universo de mi sala se llenaba de magia.

Cierro los ojos y me veo, sentado en el suelo de baldosas frescas, la nariz pegada al televisor, sintiendo que la frontera entre la realidad y la fantasía se desdibujaba. Si algo me inquietaba, bastaba imaginar que yo, también, era esa hormiga diminuta y descomunal a la vez, capaz de volar por los cielos, correr a la velocidad del rayo, levantar coches y, sobre todo, ser invulnerable a todo mal. ¿Quién no quería esos poderes cuando la niñez era un terreno por conquistar?
La Hormiga Atómica no solo volaba, también resolvía problemas con una sonrisa, ayudaba a la policía en las tareas más difíciles y enseñaba—sin saberlo—a soñar. En Venezuela, la frase “¡No olviden supervitaminarse y mineralizarse!”, se volvió un ritual doméstico, casi un conjuro matutino. Yo la gritaba al desayunar, pensando que quizá, gracias a esas palabras, también podría ser tan fuerte e invencible.
Hoy, después de seis décadas, con más canas que ganas de correr, puedo decirlo sin titubeos; esa es, fue y será “mi hormiga favorita”. Porque en aquellos días, la Hormiga Atómica no solo salvó ciudades, también rescató la imaginación de un niño que, hasta hoy, sigue creyendo en lo increíble. Ese niño fui yo, y a veces, entre sueños, lo sigo siendo.

I was nine years old, and I still remember that flickering glow of the black-and-white TV, where figures danced in marvelous shadows. It was the 1960s, and the world seemed vast and mysterious, except when Atom Ant appeared on the screen. With his unmistakable cry, "Up and at 'em, Atom Ant!" the small universe of my living room was filled with magic.

I close my eyes and see myself, sitting on the cool tile floor, my nose pressed against the television, feeling the line between reality and fantasy blurring. If anything worried me, all I had to do was imagine that I, too, was that tiny yet enormous ant, capable of flying through the skies, running at lightning speeds, lifting cars, and, above all, being invulnerable to all evil. Who didn't want those powers when childhood was a realm to be conquered?
Atomic Ant didn't just fly; she also solved problems with a smile, helped the police with the most difficult tasks, and—unbeknownst to her—taught us how to dream. In Venezuela, the phrase "Don't forget to get your vitamins and minerals up!" became a household ritual, almost a morning incantation. I would shout it at breakfast, thinking that perhaps, thanks to those words, I too could become so strong and invincible.
Today, six decades later, with more gray hair than desire to run, I can say it without hesitation: that is, was, and will always be "my favorite ant". Because in those days, Atomic Ant not only saved cities, she also rescued the imagination of a child who, to this day, continues to believe in the incredible. That child was me, and sometimes, in my dreams, I still am.
