For the poet, death is a very rare bird that usually covers its body with a certain multitude of beings. Being a timeless theme, each culture has had a way of expressing it in literature, reflecting one of humanity's main obsessions.
Each culture has experienced a different way of expressing its pain in the face of death, just as there are many ways of dying that don't require its physical presence.
Human beings, overwhelmed by the presence of the Grim Reaper, have always tried to feel it, combat it, avoid it, and ally themselves with it in more than a thousand artistic and literary forms.
The book I'm bringing you today: "La que debe morir" (The One Who Must Die), published by Reina del Mar and written by the young writer María Karla Aguila Díaz, and that it was his first published narrative book because previously, the title Red Point in Poetry was his first birth, is a true quest to show ways of feeling dead without actually dying.
I was fortunate enough to meet the writer before she decided to continue her life in Canada, and I've also had the joy of presenting this book, primarily online through a podcast.
***La que debe morir ***(The One Who Must Die) is truly a disturbing book; it was and continues to be so from the first time I read it, capable of tearing at part of your skin with every page you turn.
It's a book full of stories, of characters built from imperfection to show the supposed perfection of things and show us how twisted our lives can be without us realizing it, even how we are capable of destroying others in the name of love or any other feeling. Like a kind of dark side we're always exploring.
The book shows us a young writer who fearlessly throws at us the reality that we sometimes fail to see due to our everyday life, but with an excellent style and firmness in the construction of that abyss in which we often find ourselves on its most dangerous edge.
Furthermore, the book enjoys a structural symmetry built in two parts (Country Dogs and A Train Without Doors or Refrigerator) and 10 stories divided into five for each part.
The book's common thread is revealed in the various ways of dying, or rather, of feeling dead, whether in a family relationship, a relationship, or at work, dying from a litany, or from the social monotony that objectifies beings who are capable, through their stories, of violating all understandable logic. All social logic that commits us and binds us to an overwhelming reality in a society inhabited by precocity and precariousness in some cases and by a lack of spiritual appetite in others.
She Who Must Die lives among characters whose existentialism can be cruel and capable of twisting and destroying their fellow human beings, with a keen perception of what we can be in the physical geographic space of the towns of Ciego Montero, Palmira, and the deep Cienfuegos.
Among the stories is the opening one, titled ***"Two Hours with the Scorpion" ***which deals with the disastrous and incomprehensible relationship between mother and daughter. Although the scorpion is apparently the mother, by the time you finish reading it, you can't tell which of the two exudes more venom.
She Who Must Die, the story that gives the book its name, is the story of three women gathered to decide how to kill a young girl who, having arrived from another distant place, has been flirting with all the men in the town. She becomes a danger to the town's society, and these women are determined to settle the score with her, while they spend three days plotting how to do it.
Leather Bag is another interesting story about a chase between two women. The protagonist, Mirian, pursues another elegant and beautiful woman out of a supposed curiosity about leather bags. But what a surprise when the pursued woman turns from victim to pursuer, simply by trying to find the answer to the chase with a night of pleasure.
These are the stories; this is an easy-to-read book with a profound metaphorical construction. It's the unsettling feeling it leaves us with when we read it, and it's so important to feel it.
No matter how good the protagonists of the ten stories are or how absorbed we may become, the truth is that the author uses her resources to trap us in a bottle and place us on the edge of an abyss where many push us or ignore us until we fall into the void of loneliness.

Para el poeta la muerte es un ave muy rara que suele cubrir su cuerpo de una cierta multitud de seres. Al ser un tema intemporal, cada cultura ha tenido una forma de expresarlo en la literatura, reflejado una de la principales obsesiones de la humanidad.
Cada cultura ha vivido una forma diferente de expresar su dolor ante ella como también existen muchas formas de morir que no necesitan de la presencia física de la misma.
El ser humano, abrumado por la presencia de la Parca, siempre ha tratado de sentirla, combatirla, rehuirla y aliarla en más de mil formas artísticas y literarias.
El libro que hoy les traigo: “La que debe morir” de la editorial Reina del mar y perteneciente a la joven escritora María Karla Aguila Díaz, y que fuera su primer libro de narrativa publicado porque anteriormente, el título Punto rojo en poesía fue su primer nacimiento, no escapa a la búsqueda de mostrar formas de sentirnos muertos sin llegar al acto preciso de la defunción.
A la escritora tuve la suerte de conocerla antes de que decidiera continuar su vida en Canadá y también he tenido la dicha de presentar este libro principalmente de manera online a través de podcast.
La que debe morir es realmente un libro inquietante, lo fue y lo sigue siendo desde la primera vez que lo ley por que es capaz de desgarrarte parte de la piel con cada pagina que lees.
Es un libro lleno de historias, de personajes construidos desde la imperfección para mostrar la supuesta perfección de las cosas y mostrarnos lo torcida que pueden ser nuestras vidas sin darnos cuenta, incluso como somos capaces de destruir a otros en nombre del amor o de cualquier otro sentimiento. Como una especie de lado oscuro con el que siempre tanteamos.
El libro nos muestra a una joven escritora que nos lanza sin miedo alguno la realidad que a veces por cotidiana somos incapaces de ver pero desde un excelente estilo y una firmeza en la construcción de ese abismo en el cual muchas veces nos encontramos en su borde más peligroso.
Además, el libro goza de una simetría estructural construida en dos partes (Perros de campo y Un tren sin puertas ni frigorífico) y 10 cuentos repartidos en 5 para cada parte.
El hilo conductor del libro, se muestra en las diversas formas de morir o más bien de sentirse muertos ya sea en una relación familiar, de pareja, de trabajo, de morir por letanía o por la monotonía social que cosifica a los seres que son capaces, desde sus historias, de violar toda lógica comprensible. Toda lógica social que nos compromete y nos ata a una realidad aplastante en una sociedad habitada por la precocidad y la precariedad en algunos casos y por la inapetencia espiritual en otros.
La que debe morir, vive entre personajes que desde su existencialismo pueden ser crueles y capaces de torcer y destruir a sus semejantes con una agudísima percepción de lo que podemos ser en el espacio físico geográfico de los pueblos de Ciego Montero, Palmira y la Cienfuegos profunda.
Entre los cuentos se encuentra el inicial titulado Dos horas con el escorpión y que trata sobre la relación funesta e incomprensible entre madre e hija y aunque al parecer el escorpión es la madre, cuando terminas la lectura no sabes cual de las dos destila más veneno.
La que debe morir, cuento que da nombre al libro es la historia de tres mujeres reunidas para decidir como matar a una jovencita que llegada de otro lejano lugar se ha paseado a todos los hombres del pueblo. por lo que se convierte en un peligro para la sociedad del pueblo y estas mujeres están decididas a pasarle la cuenta, mientras llevan tres días hilvanado como hacerlo.
Bolso de cuero es otra historia interesante sobre una persecución entre dos mujeres, Mirian su protagonista persigue a otra mujer elegante y bella por la supuesta curiosidad que le daban los bolsos de cuero, pero que sorpresa cuando la perseguida se convierte de víctima a perseguidora por solo intentar buscar responder a la persecución con una noche de placer.
Así son estas historias, así es este es un libro de fácil lectura y de profunda construcción metafórica. Es el sentimiento inquietante que nos deja cuando lo leemos y que tan importante es sentirlo.
No importa lo bueno que sean los protagonistas de los diez cuentos o lo ensimismado que podamos quedar, lo cierto es que la autora, utiliza sus recursos para atraparnos en una botella y situarnos al borde de un abismo donde muchos nos empujan o nos ignoran hasta caer en el vacío de la soledad.
