If I were to get a pet someday, I don’t think I’d adopt or buy a cat. As much as I like them, I feel like cats require a level of patience that I cannot give them. Cats may be independent and cute but they have their boundaries and based on my friend's cat, they will let you know it. Cats are cute but I’m not sure if I am ready to have those little creatures yet.
So, if I would have a pet, I think I’d want a dog.

Not a big or an intimidating one. I'd probably want a medium-sized dog. I'd like a Shiba Inu because I like how they’re cute but still loyal. I imagine having a companion that fits naturally into my life. I don't want a dog that I need to micromanage each day. Maybe that's why for now, I’m not rushing into having a pet. I want to wait until I can give one the time and care it truly deserves.
Still, if I do have a pet, I can imagine taking a dog out in the morning, even on days when I feel lazy. That would be nice because I'd have someone to walk with me and I won't feel alone and conscious.
I’ve taken care of other people’s pets before like my friend's and my aunt's. Feeding them, walking them and keeping them company while their owners were busy. Those moments always made me realize how hard it is to care for others. It's not hard like I am complaining. It's more like because animals don’t tell you what they feel and think. They only respond to how you treat them.
Still, I don’t feel rushed to get a pet until I have the time and attention to give them. A pet shouldn’t feel like an extra task on a long list. It should feel like part of your life and not something squeezed into it.
For now, I’m okay being someone who likes animals from a bit of a distance. I enjoy seeing dogs on the street, watching cats nap in random corners and appreciating them without owning them. Maybe that will change later. Maybe it won’t. Who knows?
So, what about you? Do you already have a pet, or are you still imagining what kind you’d want someday?
